Tufts Emerging Black Leaders Symposium

Welcome

Thank you for your interest in Emerging Black Leaders. The organization was founded by students who believed that it was the responsibility of leaders, both young and old, to empower the lives of Black youth who view their possibilities for the future with pessimism rather than hope. The organization will forever hold at the core of its mission a commitment to the development and education of Black communities, not only in the surrounding Medford and Somerville areas, but also the greater Massachusetts community.

Over past years the organization has focused the majority of its energy on empowering Black communities by bringing them together for an annual symposium. Our symposium has strengthened our communities’ future leaders and has also sparked dialogue that has actively created change. Through our annual symposium, we hope to cultivate amongst ourselves and our peers a heightened sense of social consciousness, as well as promote the values of social responsibility that will inspire us as leaders and activists. The annual symposium serves as a medium for sustaining the improvement that we speak of.

This Organization relies on the voluntary contributive efforts of all kinds of hard-working, self-motivated, and creative individuals to make its work a success: elected officers, committee staff members, advisers, affiliates, and other volunteers, many of whom give their time to the Emerging Black Leaders as a part of these voluntary services. It is this rich range of experience of community leadership, education, and service-based initiatives that enables us to support our developing organization and its “Project Youth” campaign. We, as emerging leaders are dedicated to reclaiming not only the responsibility for the development of our communities, but also, the ownership of our cultural identities as well.

The Emerging Black Leaders, thanks to the efforts and support of several dedicated individuals, is now more than ever focused on bringing to life the dialogue started at our symposium.
With the utmost thanks,
The Emerging Black Leaders
