EBL Electoral Policy
Executive Board and Committee Members are invited to run for EBL Executive Board Positions on Monday, April 14th from 9:00 – 10:30 pm in Braker 001.
Electoral Rules:
All candidates who want to be considered for Executive Board positions must first register with the Historian and prepare and deliver an original, five minute-maximum speech before all current EBL members on Election Day.
Upon delivery of the speech, a candidate must receive two nominations from EBL members, one of which must be current Executive Board member, before his or her name can be placed on the ballot for election.
Candidates must receive a majority vote from all EBL members in order to become recognized for a successful campaign. In the event of a tie, the current Executive Committee will vote to determine the winner and officially recognize the winner’s campaign.
Requirements:
1. Any student can become an EBL committee member volunteer and choose what committee they want to serve as long as they fill out an EBL application.
2. Any student who wants to become Head of a Committee and serve on the Executive Board must be an active participant in EBL for a semester and go through the electoral process.

Description of Executive Board Committees:
The Executive Board of Directors is responsible for the day to day operations of the Emerging Black Leaders Sankofa Network of Chapter Organizations and Affiliate programs, as well as the annual Bernard Harleston Scholar’s Award scholarship essay competition.
The Executive Committee of a Chapter Organization or Affiliate program must have at least a President, Historian, and Treasurer on this committee, in addition to a Chairman or Co-Chair for each of its subsequent committees. President oversees operations of each committee and makes networking contacts for the EBL Organization.
The Archive & Alumni Relations Committee is chaired by the Historian and the Assistant Historian and is responsible for the maintenance and organization of all records, surveys, & relevant media pertaining to the Organization including the website. Also, this committee is responsible for the Chapter Organization or Affiliate program’s submission to the Emerging Black Leader’s monthly newsletter.
The Community Outreach Committee chairman is responsible for the Project Youth Campaign along with its three subsequent programs: College Access, the Sankofa Youth Project, and Civil Service Day Events that will occur on a monthly basis around Medford, Somerville, and the Greater Boston Metropolitan Area.
The Logistics Committee is responsible for the logistical event planning involved to coordinate the annual Emerging Black Leaders Symposium including securing speakers, their travel & lodging, in addition to the conference menu, booking a venue, and organizing supplies for the Symposium.
The Public Relations Committee chairman is responsible for maintaining stable relationships with all local media sources, including television, newspapers, radio, and online media sources in addition to advertising organization sponsored events on other college campuses.
The Speaker’s Bureau is responsible for researching and contacting all potential panelists and keynote speakers on behalf of the organization. This committee is facilitated by the President of the Executive Committee.
Treasury is chaired by Treasurer and Assistant Treasurer responsible for the EBL monetary budget as well as contacting prospective donators, both on and off of Tufts Campus.
